momento mori, 2015, found book pages, handmade oak gall ink, plaster Momento Mori is part of a larger project developed from an acquisition of Victorian religious books (see florilegium). In an introspective dialogue between text, image, and the book form, I blacken words with ink, highlighting others, creating shapes and notes, until poems and drawings revealed themselves. In this work the inked pages are married with plaster into deconstructed sculptural book forms. This series responds to the language and structure of books- sculptural, conceptual, intimate; and marks the monastic hours of Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, Compline.
