daily hours, 2015. suite of 8 drawings, graphite on handmade indigo-dyed wasli paper, 2015, 17x13" each

This series developed during a Weir Farm residency in March 2015. I worked in total solitude and silence, reminiscent of a monastic time. I thought of how we mark/measure time when there are no exterior dictating structures. Turning text block design from liturgical texts into visual shapes, I explored how this backwards rythmic loop might communicate. These works respond to the language and structure of books- sculptural, conceptual, intimate, and mark the 8 monastic hours of prayer –Matins, Lauds, Prime, Terce, Sext, None, Vespers, Compline.
